“The beach wave” is synonymous with the disheveled elegance of ‘C’ or ‘S’ shaped waves and curls. Typically, hair is straight at the crown, and drops down into a surging wave cascade. But there is a new wave in town –– literally. Termed the urban wave, city girls are taking to softer ribbons of texture. Julie Sarinana, Sincerely, Jules fashion blogger shows us this trendsetting street look. Like the beach wave, the urban wave is a great way to spotlight graduated dip-dyes. Here the caramel ombre works with loose and bendy hair strands to create special interest on the ends.
Step: For fabulous graduation of color, pair a medium or dark coffee brown with caramel ombre.
Step: Long and layered styles are perfect for the urban wave. For styling, combine styling whip and curl enhancer and apply to damp, towel-dried hair.
Step: Rough dry with blowdryer and hands. Toss hair up and down, round and round, left and right while applying heat –– a great way to invigorate natural texture.
Step: Stop when close to dry. Twist side sections –– the parts being urban waved –– around two or three fingers and blowdry the twist up and down with the nozzle always pointing down.
Step: If the above technique doesn’t make hair as wavy as you’d like (it should), use a curling iron to create a more defined curl.
