Andy, the smoking hot star of the Style Scrapbook, shows how to marry classic pretty girl hair with fashion-forward inspiration. An archetypal long heavily layered cut –– hugely popular because it is such a feminine and easy to wear look –– with strong side-swept bangs, the style is healthy and natural and accentuates her strong cheekbones and pretty eyes. Yet she keeps it hip by pinpointing the coolest trends in hair right now: One –– ombre on the ends; two –– beach waves on the ends; three –– combining the two to create a virtuous cycle of style.

The varnished, shellacked and lacquered looks that keep hair stiff or fixed in a certain style are no longer top of the pops. They are too stiff and straight for today’s heterogeneous world. In fashion, deconstruction of texture –– think frayed edges and rumpled looks –– have long since diversified what we wear, and now hairstyle is catching on in a big way. Tangly, knotty, shaggy, or straggly, whatever you call it, looks like this are part of a new wave of shabby chic styles that are at the center of fashion’s eye.

And you thought it was a fad! The straight texture on top, moving into full-blown waves downs the sides and back, which hit the runways and red carpets this season, got an official stamp of “on trend” approval with this Julia Roberts Vanity Fair cover. With outward kicks and flips in the front, the style creates a great face frame. The hair looks luscious, sexy and full, with the laid-back seventies vibe. A very subtle ombre color, notice how the golden highlights are perfectly placed to spotlight the variation in texture.

A shag hair cut is a hairstyle that is layered to various lengths. The layers are often feathered at the top and sides. The layers make the hair full around the crown (so lots of volume in styles like this), and then it thins to deconstructed fringes towards the ends. In short, it’s a classic. And this modern version has that unkempt, I-cut-it-myself-on-the-way-to-Vegas feeling. It’s bold and dramatic, yet surprisingly low-maintenance and easy to style. We love how the mega-heavy fringe makes the eyes unmissable. Great for fashion-forward women on the go…
