Lensed at the Blue Valentine red carpet, Cannes, Michelle Williams is a picture of timeless beauty and grace. Her idyllic crop is growing out, yet her hair remains her crowning glory. Her lovely thick strands suit this sharp, bold look. The graduated shape with sweeping bangs bring out the beauty of her eyes. Notice how there is a fair bit of length on the top. This enables versatility; the style can be worn messy or smooth, spiked or flat. This fun hairstyle is great for those who want a hip look that requires little or no maintenance.

We love watching how trends evolve. In an era when everything has already been done, the art is in the reinvention. Lauren Conrad is on the pulse. As fashionistas prepared for a second summer of beach waves, those on the vanguard were busy practicing their urban wave. Like its curlier cousin, the urban wave is defined by a straight drop down from the crown, which turns into tousled texture down below. The difference, as hinted, is that the wave is softer, looser; more of a winding spiral than a mass of cascading wave. Like Lauren, pair with a long layer cut and center part to live in the halfway house between the disheveled, undone elegance of the beach wave, and the urbane polish of straighter styles.

Emma has beautiful, shiny, medium-smooth hair and she has layered her long length cut into this slighter shorter, more polished look. The bangs are side-parted and sweep elegantly across her bright, flickering eyes. A graceful, cultured, and sophisticated style that adds youthfulness and beauty in an easy to wear way. The color, as usual for Emma, is gorgeous. A classic case of golden blonde highlighting, it is a beautiful fit for her complexion and makeup palette.

The headband, the braid: Two hair trends unlikely to go out of fashion anytime soon. Yet the direction in the twenty-first century is to take it up a notch by making trends your own. Inventive and original, this organic braided headband is a terrific example of an inspired street style. The distressed beatnik texture and yellow-gold blonde is a fantastic frame for such an artful, graphic entwine.
