Opulent, meet austere –– the two of you have more in common than you think. The Eastern Promises spread in this month’s Vogue Netherlands features model Marique Shimmel looking like a warrior princess. She wears a short choppy fringe, graphic red brows, and a deep ruby and white gold mane, styled to a top knot. We love the flat platforms, gold embroidery, and chunky jewelry used to contrast the long, loose silhouettes created by Vivienne Westwood, Haider Ackermann, and Jil Sander. Check the full spread to see the captivating combination of opposing forces….

The latest issue of A Magazine Italy features model Robin in playful scholastic ensembles casually strolling about a faux campus. Though she may be decked out in atypical school dress for the every day collegiate- Paul Smith, Miu Miu, and Hermes to name a few- her hairstyle is spot on. We are crushing on her loose and messy milkmaid-esque braids. Click through for more photos and on how to create these sweet braids in your hair.

Natalie Portman has always been a trendsetter. In her first major role, as Mathilda in Leon: The Professional, she wore a sassy chin length bob that made her look girlishly innocent, with a gutsy touch of femme fatale. She always looks sexy, even in the most outlandish of costumes, like those she wore to play Queen Amadala in The Phantom Menace. She’s subtly sensual, and always poised, even when playing a stripper in Closer. There’s something quintessentially brunette about her, and although her hair has gone from short to long, wavy to straight, dark to light, we think she looks best with shoulder-length (or longer) dark locks and smoky eyes. Natalie reminds of the power understated beauty, and the classic elegance of the perfect shade of brown. Click style notes to see more images of her greatest looks…

We can’t get enough of Alexa Chung’s chic hairstyle; she has a way of looking effortlessly put together. This cut is a perfect example of her sassy, lived-in style. Shoulder length, with a pretty sweetheart bang and some disheveled layers, it is easy to wear and provides lots of styling options. It’s also a perfect transition cut if you are growing out your hair from a shorter style.

Summer may be winding down but that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to beachy texture. These long, luscious waves are gorgeous for any season. Flirty and fun, adding swirls is a great way to update or refresh your look. And modern permanent texture services like American Wave make it easy to transform limp and lifeless hair to bouncy, full, and wash and wear ready. Otherwise, it’s best to create this look with a curling iron. This type of wave can also be brushed out for a glamorous, old-Hollywood look.
