This tough yet feminine style caused quite a stir at last week’s MTV movie awards. Selena Gomez wore her braided style with a pompadour front and extensions for a look that was equal parts eighteenth century aristocracy, 1970s punk, and mermaid fantasy. Although the style looks complicated, at root it’s a simple inverted french braid with tight sides. Detailing the front, the tail, and the texture of the braid can transform the look to suit a variety of moods. In style and in timing, Jennifer Lawrence’s new ‘do is perfect. Presenting Bill Clinton with an Advocate for Change Award on GLAAD’s biggest night, Hollywood’s coolest kid showed the world the power of transformation with a tousled, shoulder-grazing cut. Reminiscent of Karlie Kloss’s ‘haircut of the year’  because of the creative, graphic, featherweight shape that encourages perky natural texture, Jennifer keeps it unique by wearing the style with more length, and with a definite side-swept parting. As Kloss and Lawrence –– two of the world’s most desirable girls –– are sporting loose and freeform, shorter strands within haphazard shapes and textures, expect shaggy to be chic in spring and summer.
