In the 20th century, original It-Girl Clara Bow and hairdressing pioneer Vidal Sassoon popularized the bob. Now, more than fifty years on, a sixties fashion revival and the celebrities who are driving it are bringing the bob back into style. For a contemporary take, we love the tousled and piecey crops worn by models Frida Gustavsson and Elena Perminova in a recent Neiman Marcus campaign. The messy style marries bobs, bed-heads, and beach waves –– and is easy to achieve. For tips on wearing a textured bob, click through to style notes. — Michelle Rotbart

Side-swept bangs are a staple of feminine sexiness that draw attention to the eyes with a flattering, asymmetrical shape. Swingy fringes look great with a variety of lengths, but in this cut the swooping front becomes the focal point. Tapered sides and short length overall place the face framing front at center stage. The effect is dramatic but soft, especially when paired with a pale blonde shade. The light color adds to the diffused feeling of the shape; blurring the transition from short to long. Get this graceful cut in a few simple steps. — Laura Martin

Here’s a perfect modern interpretation of a vintage hairstyle. Ever since the 1950s, and the accompanying golden age of Hollywood, an asymmetrical, short-to-long shape with a tumbling wave or curl cascade has epitomized beauty and glamor. Why? The stye is a great way to open the face-frame, while the ‘C’ and ‘S’ shapes are always romantic, especially when draped off of neck and shoulders. In past times, this kind of look was also beyond the reach of many, which made it even more desirable. But now, with modern hot-tools making it quicker and easier to manipulate hair, it can be made in fifteen minutes. To learn how, click style notes.
