American Wave is on the crest of a wave. It’s already featured on The Today Show and in the Chicago Tribune, and a new Color Wave version of the pioneering salon service is soon to be released. And with the emerging trend for modern multi-textured styles hitting the runways, the beach, and the streets it’s a great time to feature this American Wave Makeover by ARROJO NYC texture specialist, Barton Miller. As seen in the before image (top left of the collage), his model, Nicole, has a fine and wispy natural texture. But just a couple of hours later, she reappeared with a full and bouncy ‘do that highlights the elegance, beauty and unique personality of waves, curls, tousle and flow (bottom left image of the collage). After the makeover, we caught up with Nicole to find out how she feels with her newly buxom tresses. To read her thoughts, click style notes.

Jackie Kennedy wore a bob, as have numerous other first ladies and busy moms, transforming the bob from tantalizing to traditional. But bobs can be hot, sultry, even mysterious. Debbie Harry, Madonna, Victoria Beckham, Siouxsie Sioux, and Marilyn Monroe made their jaw-grazing crops a statement, a way of expressing powerful femininity, and they’re not the only ones; look at Karlie Kloss, Cameron Diaz, or Rachel Taylor. But what’s the difference between a sexy bob and a frumpy one? How do you make your crop trendy and tempting instead of boxy and boring? Read on to find out. –– Laura Martin
