Egged on by celebrities, braids have become a major summer staple. There are many inspirational, intricate woven looks, but some are more aspirational than attainable. Then came Rachel Bilsons’ look at Comic Con. Complete with a sexy, easy braid this is definitely a ‘do you can do at home. Rachel always looks effortlessly cool and I loved the polished outfit mixed with the undone hair. To attain a similar look, click through to style notes for my easy tips. –– Michelle Rotbart

This is a pleasing look from Katy Perry. Spotted at the Smurf’s 2 Premiere, her family-friendly ensemble is crowned by hair with glamorous retro curls, asymmetrical shape, and a curvaceous side-sweep. Locks pushed behind the ear on one side and flowing forward on the other is a great face-framer, while flouncy ringlets are always romantic and feminine. It’s nice to see Katy’s natural raven-hair, too; the jet-black hue makes a striking and beautifying contrast to her piercing blue eyes. With a few flicks of a curling wand, anyone with shoulder-length or longer hair can recreate this red carpet look. For our tips, click style notes.

Chin-length shapes look great with minimal effort, which is great for everyday wear but makes it easy to fall into a styling rut. Karlie Kloss and January Jones have been instrumental in the growing popularity of bobs, and both ladies are fantastic at wearing the classic shape in a multitude of styles. Transforming bobbed cuts from day to night can be tricky because they have less layering and more weight than other short shapes.  But the right products and a few styling tips are enough to break free, providing you with alternatives to fit every mood and ensemble.
