The music frustrates, but MTV’s VMAs is still a portal to celebrity fashion and beauty trends; last night’s show will be remembered more for the tresses than the tunes.  Amongst some crazy hair moments (go get ‘em, Miley), Selena Gomez stood out for this sizzling hot look.  Styled into a super-straight ‘do, her hair color looks a little lighter than before, making a sultry match to her big, bewitching eyes. Her stylist for the night must have noticed the same thing because her graphic eye makeup puts her peepers in the spotlight, while her extra long and sleek hair plays the the role of the dramatic accent. By using a flat-iron, you can recreate Selena’s shining style in fifteen minutes flat; to learn how, click style notes.

With impulsive emotions, singing outbursts, and a colorful wardrobe Zooey Deschanel plays cute dork, Jessica Day, to perfection. The hairdo suits Jess’s pretty personality, adding a bohemian vibe to her eccentricity. A combination of the wavy and the straight can give you that New Girl strut; for my tips and tricks on creating her enviable style, click style notes.  –– Michelle Rotbart

Miss Scarlet is the sexy character in Clue; which may be why she gets to go first. Hasbro has changed her appearance over the decades, showing her in a variety of hair colors, but we know she’s really a redhead. As the game’s stunning femme fatale, and with a name like Miss Scarlet, its a shame to picture her as blonde or brunette. In my mind she has flashing crimson hair, like the color shown here. Now you can have it too; read on for the professional formulation and application tips. –– Laura Martin
