beachy bob

It’s summer, so we’re all dreaming of one thing…beach hair. Whether an actual beach is involved or not is irrelevant. We see lots of inspirational photos of girls with long, blonde Gisele-esque waves, but what about us gals rocking the bob trend? These fantastic, bulk reducing layers make mid-length cuts edgier, piecier, and less bulky. Cut flat, in opposition to the head shape, this type of layering best suites thick or coarse straight hair, which can look heavy and lack movement. These layers work well on blunt or diffused shapes anywhere from jawline to collar bone. Click the style notes to learn more about the technique. –– Laura Martin

The weather is still hot but back-to-school sales are popping up and I’m starting to plan my fall look.  I’m currently wearing a soft reddish brown hair color with slightly lighter, hand-painted highlights, and for the fall, I’m thinking about transitioning to a lighter base with darker ends. The reverse ombre –– sombre –– makes ends look healthy and shiny, provides flattering lightness around the face, and offers a fun seasonal change in a single salon visit.
