wash and wear

Fashion’s normcore style––sort of a unisex trend for those who do not wish to distinguish themselves from others by their clothing––seems to have reached the beauty world in the form of untouched wash & wear waves. In terms of hair, pared-down luxury is not doing much and still looking super sophisticated. This idea was evident among the it girls of the Art Basel party scene last week. The likes of Jourdan Dunn, Scout Willis, and even Kim Kardashian rocked easy waves as opposed to glossy blow-outs. While the stars had the Miami weather on their side, you too can mimic this rumpled texture. Click through to style notes to find out how. –– Michelle Rotbart

Fishtails are the creme de la creme of braids; they’re easy to create but look surprisingly intricate. The combination of simple technique and elaborate finish create fantastic DIY updos like the two looks shown here. Both of these styles require only basic braiding skills and a few bobby pins, but they look like they came from a high-end salon. You remember that girl in high school, the one who wore a t-shirt and ponytails all the time and still looked amazing? Yeah, me too. Casual, effortless beauty is super sexy, and all the rage. But it can be hard to pull off if you’re not a born stunner. That’s where this cut comes in. The ingenious shape combines a flattering shoulder length, invisible layers and beachy texture. It looks like you just rolled out of bed, but it also plays up the best of what you’ve got. Read on to learn more about this incognito style. –– Laura Martin
