low messy bun

At this time of year all the major publications are clamoring to be the first to hit on the big trends for the coming seasons. So that they can take the kudos when one of their forecasts hits, they tend to load their bases with juxtaposing remarks like ‘polished’ and ‘undone,‘ ‘disheveled’ and ‘refined.’ This can leave followers of style trends in a tizz, not knowing which way the pendulum will swing. Instead of focusing on the next fad, it’s better to have a few classic looks in your locker, and adapt and modernize them based on current fashion inspirations. For example, what girl doesn’t know how to do a low bun? And who hasn’t seen celebrities wearing tousled low buns recently? It’s a look that is on trend, easy to do, and beautifying. If there’s one word to summarize all up the emerging trends for 2015, it’s ‘unfussy.’ Clothing, hair, and makeup all feel a little simpler, paired down, relaxed. When it comes to styling this means less time spent with heat tools and less polished results. The looks shown here are a perfect example of this sort of simplicity. By using a crimper on random sections you’ll add interest and volume, but without creating a big, wild mess. The look is playful, not overwrought. Click the style notes for steps. –– Laura Martin
