In case you missed it, last night was the biggest night of award season: the Oscars. And while most eyes were checking out the dresses, I was all about the hair and faces. An actress’s beauty look carries equal if not more importance to her outfit, as it’s the finishing touch that can make her unforgettable. There were many inspired styles on the night; my favorite’s include Jennifer Lawrence wearing her scintillating blonde casually down, Olivia Wilde’s side-parted braid bun, and Daisy Ridley’s intricate updo. I recommend pulling these looks into your files to use as inspiration for your next fancy event. To see more of my favorites, click through to style notes. –– Michelle Rotbart Click for StyleNotes →

Chipotle is not a specific type of pepper, but a process of smoking and drying that infuses hot peppers with depth and sweetness and lends them a burnt red hue. This hue reminds me of the particular smoky scarlet of chipotle. It’s a distinctive, smoldering shade that’s hot but not too bright. In contrast to the sleek entwines on the runways at New York Fashion Week, Olivia Wilde’s plait is anything but polished. Wavy texture, loose and loopy with lots of free-falling strands, this look is the epitome of lived-in. But for all its casualness, the prettiness here, combined with a few smart details—shine, a side part, and ends fluffed into a teardrop—make for a romantic look that’s sexy, not slovenly. Karlie Kloss for Diane Von Furstenberg F/W Lookbook

Going to the disco? We love this sexy hairstyle sported by Karlie Kloss in the Fall/Winter Diane Von Furstenberg lookbook. Paired with a stunning gold maxi dress, one can’t help but think of the seventies-inspired trends that emerged after stylistic flick, American Hustle. Happily, with the advent of better products and tools, this style is quicker and easier to create now than it was in the “Me Decade.” Below, learn how to create this look in 20 minutes. . .

Pull out your hair ties and get ready to stroll down memory lane ladies, because your signature childhood hairstyle, pigtails, are back in vogue. The look, a staple amongst four-year-olds and cheerleaders made several appearances throughout the last few weeks of fashion month. It girls like Karlie Kloss, Lexi Boling, and Kim Kardashian West were seen wearing modern versions on the street. And models at Creatures of the Wind rocked tightly slicked plaits that started at the crown. Though I even spotted little Harper Beckham and North West wearing this look, it’s not just for children any more.
