I have fond memories of the topsy tail pony. As a child, my grandmother would gently rub my head and then gather the length of my pony to create a look that was both cute and quirky. But over the years, just like butterfly clips and body glitter, I left the topsy tail in my box of nostalgia. Recently though I started seeing the style emerge in surprisingly chic and elevated variations. And it all makes sense, this is a great style to keep hair off your face all summer and a great alternative to an up-do. I love that this childhood favorite ended up being an effortless high fashion statement. To get started on your topsy tail, click through to the notes. –– Michelle Rotbart Click for StyleNotes →

There are few times when “one size fits all” is actually accurate, but this chic and simple undo really is perfect for just about any occasion from casual coffee date to formal wedding. Easily customize the front with a dramatic part or faux bang; add a few embellished clips or flowers to dress it up; or tie a scarf around the hairline to soften. Start with curls, waves, or glossy sleekness; this shape works for everyone! However you make it your own, you’re going to love this look. Thursday, I’m finally headed on a much-needed vacation, where I’ll have lots of wine and lots of pool time. Wherever you’re headed, sun, beach or pool, when on vacation remember that your great escape should extend to your locks. Holidays in the sun—and more specifically UV rays, humidity, chlorine and other things that can come with it, can seriously damage your strands. If you’re not taking the right steps to care for your hair, you may end up with faded color and dry hair as souvenirs. But don’t fret, I have a great list of things you need to bring with you on your next trip to keep hair healthy and gorgeous on your time off! –– Michelle Rotbart  Click for StyleNotes →

You already know that washing your hair every day can dry it out and make your color fade faster, and yet, you can’t seem to give up the habit. You’ve tried skipping a day or two and your hair looks terrible: your hair line breaks out, your roots look greasy, and your strands feel limp and lifeless. You’ve seen all the cute “second day” hairstyles but your second day hair is only fit for a ponytail. You know that if you could suffer through a few months of bad hair everything would even out, but you can’t just look rough for 3 months! Sound familiar? Click the notes and learn my secrets for transitioning into less frequent shampooing without looking or feeling terrible. –– Laura Martin Click for StyleNotes →

In case you haven’t noticed, half-up topknots have been practically everywhere the last few months, on the heads of models and all over Instagram. And there are plenty of reasons to embrace this look, it’s perfect for days your hair is too messy or even too dirty too wear down, but you don’t really want to hide all of it. And depending on your style, you can either wear it casual or dressed up. Personally I love it when the look has a little more attitude, which is why I love adding the French braid detail to it. And you don’t even need much time to execute it. Click through to the notes to learn how to emulate this style. –– Michelle Rotbart Click for StyleNotes →
