As many curly gals will attest, growing up with curls and kinks was incredibly difficult. My mother always wore a cool crop and all the cool girls in middle school had shiny blonde and straight tendrils, so there was no hope for me. I had no idea what to do with my curls or how to manage frizz. Most of the time my hair was thrown up into a bun or barely managed with some crunchy gel. Thankfully today embracing your curls is so much easier. Read any beauty magazine or walk into any specialty or mass beauty store and you’ll see tons of curl specific hair products. So whether you have waves, tight spirals, or an amazing afro, you can embrace your curls! Somewhere in your bathroom there’s probably a shelf or a drawer full of hair products you don’t use: too-heavy conditioner, too-sticky wax, powdery dry shampoo. You probably spent a lot of money on these products and you don’t want to throw them away, but you don’t want a bad hair day either, so you tuck away all these not-quite-right products hoping that someday you’ll find a use for them. Now that day has come. You can pull all those products out of the drawer and through the power of cocktailing, make exciting bespoke creations.
