Labor Day weekend is just over two weeks away and unfortunately we all know what that means, the unofficial end of summer. A change of seasons is a great excuse for changing up your color, something often easier said than done for brunettes. Darker shades reflect less light, so changes in tone aren’t as noticeable. As a result, most brunettes tend to stick with their signature hue, maybe adding a few caramel highlights in the summer. This look switches it up and creates dimension with ribbons of navy blue painted through the lower layers. The shade is subtle enough not to upset your boss, and trendy enough to take your autumn style to another level. Everyone says spring is the season of renewal but, beyond the natural world, I really think it’s actually autumn. There’s plenty of change in the air and it’s a great time to learn a new beauty skill. You know I’ve never met a braid I didn’t like, but I’ve especially always loved the fishtail braid. It looks intricate and intimidating but its’ actually an easy plait to master. All you need is second day hair, your hands, a little bit of product, and a hair tie. Get braiding ladies, I’m predicting this will be the it accessory to match your fall fashions. Click through to the notes to get started. –– Michelle Rotbart

We’ve seen bobs of all shapes and sizes over the last few years: long bobs, wavy bobs, stacked curly bobs, and short choppy bobs. Strangely enough, what we haven’t seen is a lot of is the classic, a one-length blunt bob that falls somewhere between chin and mid-neck. That’s about to change. This fall, bobs are going polished and sleek. Ready to take your bob in chic new direction? Click the notes to learn the essentials of the classic. –– Laura Martin Click for StyleNotes →

I thought I was over the pastel trend until I saw this lovely photo the other day while scrolling through my Facebook feed. For a second I couldn’t place the gorgeous face framed in a a color so soft and creamy it reminded me of frosting, then I realized it was Bella, the dark haired, vampy Hadid sister! This look is probably a temporary effect, but it amazed me to see how dramatically it changed Bella’s look, and how much I liked it. Pastel hair may turn out to be a permanent fixture in the hair color spectrum, and I think I’m okay with that.
