We often hear about Parisian chic or London polish, but do you ever wonder how much styles really change from one place to another? Which trends are strictly regional and which ones circumnavigate the globe? Curious about how universal the current haircut trends are, I did a little research. Click the notes to see what I learned. –– Laura Martin

Bobs are (nearly) universal. This probably doesn’t come as a big surprise, but the bob trend has taken off in many of the worlds major cities. Brits may wear their bobs crisper and shorter than aussies, but the bob trend is big in cities ranging from Tokyo to Montreal. There were a few outliers though, like India and Brazil.

Bangs are big. The bang trend seems to be everywhere, particularly in places where the dominant aesthetic is undone and effortless. Paris, Italy (surprise!), and Moscow are dominating the trend. Short, choppy, curly, and center-parted bangs are just a few of the popular styles.

Straightening is an American thing. You’ve probably seen some articles about how straight sleek hair is back in style, and it is, but only in the US. The rest of the world seems to be embracing their natural texture. Sculptural cuts on curls, loose afros, and shaggy waves are all on-trend.
