Are you itching to lighten up your hair color? If you are a dark brunette, and want to be fully flaxen by summer, now is the perfect time to start your journey to a light blonde shade. Going blonde can be extremely stressful on your hair so taking it slowly is the best way to maintain hair health and get a shiny outcome. Click the notes for your guide to blonde. –– Kelly Rowe

Right Now

Get a single and lighten hair by 2 shades.

Lightening the base will make future highlights appear more sparkly and the overall hair appear brighter. It doesn’t take lightening your base by much either. Two shades is plenty; plus it will help you get used to a more delicate shade next to your face. Keep the tone a bit cooler so it doesn’t clash with your paler winter skin.

End of March

Retouch your single and get a full highlight.

This will be the biggest step forward towards blonde. With a lifted base and a full highlight you are going to feel much lighter now. Make sure your colorist does lots and lots of fine highlights and keeps the overall tone more neutral than cool.

End of May

Retouch your single and get a partial highlight.

This will be your last step right before summer starts. This partial highlight should be glittery and bright. Have a super light golden glaze applied for a sun-kissed look.
