This whimsical yet bold floral updo comes from the Alice + Oliva NYFW show. A vanguard spring look that exalts the simple updo, the style is actually a surprisingly easy to do bun-twist-braid combo; it’s really just the ornamental accessory that makes it look extra special and difficult to achieve. In the notes, learn how to create this vanguard look for spring –– and go impress your friends.
Step: Make a clean center part. Apply volume foam from roots to ends and blow dry hair straight.
Step: In the front, from the center part directly down to behind the ears, separate hair into two sections, leaving a third section in the back, below the occipital bone.
Step: Gather the back section of hair into a low ponytail just below the nape of the neck and secure with elastic.
Step: Using a flat brush, pull the front two sections toward the back of the head and wrap round the ponytail and secure with a another elastic. You should now have one big ponytail.
Step: Create a rope braid by dividing the ponytail into two sections and twisting each section counterclockwise until the full length of hair has been twisted. Now cross the two twisted sections over one another, twining repeatedly until you reach the bottom of the ponytail. Secure with elastic.
Step: Twist the braid into a horizontal, ear-to-ear chignon. Secure with pins and finish with holding spray.
Step: To complete the look in the Alice + Olivia fashion, add blooming red carnations across the top. Secure with pins.
