Spring Cut Inspiration: Swinging Bombshell

BLONDE, EVERYDAY, MODEL, SHORT, SLEEK

image

Side-swept bangs are a staple of feminine sexiness that draw attention to the eyes with a flattering, asymmetrical shape. Swingy fringes look great with a variety of lengths, but in this cut the swooping front becomes the focal point. Tapered sides and short length overall place the face framing front at center stage. The effect is dramatic but soft, especially when paired with a pale blonde shade. The light color adds to the diffused feeling of the shape; blurring the transition from short to long. From Our Archives: The Beautiful Bangs Of Rooney Mara

BRUNETTE, CELEBRITY, SEXY, SHORT, TRENDING

We can’t stress enough the value of brilliant and stylish bangs. Have them cut wrong and the eyes can look closer together, or they can weigh you down into a dated look. Get them cut right and bangs will lift you up, frame the wonderful features of your face, and bring more attention to your eyes. Be brave and try different ways of wearing them.

For inspiration, use these images of edgy film star, Rooney Mara. While keeping the raven color and the pixie look, she has creatively changed up her style by reshaping the front. A comb, a blowdryer and a lightweight styling product is all you need to try a variety of fashionable fringes. Go for it!

While wearing her trendsetting short crop, Michelle Williams has enjoyed playing with different color tones. She’s already rocked strawberry and sandy blonde at different red carpet events, and here she goes for the archetypal platinum silvery-blonde. The great thing about short hair, is the different stages of the grow out –– as days pass, you can do radically different things. Until recently, her crop was so short that she was mostly wearing it flat, which is a nice way to accent the curvature of the head. But now, with that bit of extra length, she had created an elegant side-swept bang, and a softly tousled shape. She looks youthful, contemporary, and gorgeous.

Spring Hairstyles for Men: The Return of the Skater Cut

BLONDE, MODEL, SHORT, SLEEK

image

Skateboards are making a comeback as are the long disconnected hairstyles associated with them. In the nineties, skating was synonymous with rebelliousness and independence, a free-spirited vibe that has a wide-ranging appeal. The sport also had a distinctly punk aesthetic that appealed to the grunge generation, offering a new take on artful disillusionment. Now the look is back, giving a bad boy twist to disconnected shapes, and a new styling option for men with a prohibition era cut. The fusion of dapper gentleman and rebel without a cause gives a new dimension to men’s looks. Read the style notes for tips on getting this exciting amalgamation of classic and maverick style. –– Laura Martin

Miley Cyrus with a Punk Rock Spike

BLONDE, CELEBRITY, SHORT, TRENDING

Miley Cyrus

With an effortless combination of grunge and glamor, Miley Cyrus captured the mood of the Met Gala, PUNK: From Chaos to Couture. And while perfectly fitting the image, her hair is also an example of the versatility of cropped cuts. The blonde with dark roots makes it aggressively stark, while the cluster of barbed strands round the crown attaches the dramatic aesthetic of the punk rock epoch. But Miley is also able to style her cut sleek and smooth or tousled and undone. For tips to creating punk-inspired spikes, and a variety of other looks with short hair, click style notes.
