When I was a little girl I was completely enchanted with The Little Mermaid. I was taken with the idea of having a bright shimmering tail, long flowing hair, and the ability to breathe underwater. I’ve since come to terms with living on land, and no longer want hair that extends to my waist, but I do still find mermaids appealing. This look which features a subtle splash of sea-colored brights and panels of sparkling silver for water-like shine, offers a sophisticated take on the mermaid theme. Step: Select accent shades in the same color family as your base shade but with contrasting depth. The charcoal shade shown pairs beautifully with silver and gelato mint, plum, and lemon. A warmer brown would coordinate well with gold, red and copper hues.

Step: To create a sparkling effect, place highlight shades on the top surface at the rounds of the head where light makes a natural shine line. The crown, fringe, and parietal ridge are the strongest choices.

Step: Keep sections thin and apply colors in back-to-back layers to create a shimmering effect as hair moves. Keep application a few inches from roots, feathering edge to keep transition soft.
