Trends provide both inspiration and frustration with their constant invitation to reinvent. There are moments when fashion seems to sync perfectly with our best assets, and times when the current styles are impossible or unflattering. This season’s number one hair trend, the bob, is a low maintenance, flattering look for straight textures, but can prove frustrating for curly and wavy hair, where blunt lines and short lengths can create an unflattering, triangular shape. But don’t despair, some clever weight removal can make this shape work for even the wildest of coils. The cuts featured above show clever solutions that remove bulk and add movement for curl-customized chin length looks. Read on for tips on getting a clever, texture-appropriate adaptation and making it look great. — Laura Martin
Step: Keep the length at mid-neck or above to achieve a bobbed silhouette. An A-line shape will break up weight at the back of the neck and prevent ends from looking too heavy. Long layers and a razored edge will remove bulk and give curls room to coil. Shorter lengths around the brow add playfulness and frame the features.
Step: At home, cleanse and condition with shine luxe shampoo and condition; the rich formula enhanced with cocoa butter and keratin will keep hair hydrated and strong. Add a few pumps of detangling foam and comb through with a wide tooth comb.
Step: Add a quarter of curl definer and twist individual coils for definition. Air dry or diffuse, disturbing strands as minimally as possible. When all moisture is removed, mist hands with healing oil and scrunch into tips to add sparkle and bounce.
