Glamorous, sexy, bumptious, tumultuous –– this is “Manhattan,” by Corrinn Dinan. “For this shoot, I wanted the hair to combine glamor and sexy edginess. I pictured a style full of body and flounce, but with a bit of a roughed up edge, a lot like Manhattan!”
I prepped by working generous amounts of Styling Whip and Protective Thickening Lotion into dry hair, working it in with my hands and then combing it through for even distribution. Then I applied heat to activate the products, using my dryer and my hands, moving the hair around and lifting it off the roots for body and volume.
Next I prepped for an iron set. I took a section of hair from the top of the head to above the nape area (kind of diagonal back but circular around the head) and clipped the rest of the hair away. That way I could style the front, sides, and hairline within the first section, and continue up the head with smaller concentric circular sections on a slight diagonal back.
Using my ARROJO Curling Wand, I curled larger subsections of hair about 2″ wide and curled everything away from the face. Each curl was sprayed with Primp Working Spray before and after curling. I rolled up each curl and pinned it on base with a double prong clip to let it set.
Once the entire head was curled and set, I sprayed it with more Primp and hit the hair with cold air from my dryer. Then I removed the clips and shook out the hair with generous amounts of Refinish Dry Shampoo to add matte body, grit, and texture –– and to make sure that the hair wasn’t too polished or shiny for the shoot.”
