Flirty and feminine, this season’s short shapes are turning back the clock to the early 2000s when pixie cuts where longer, rounder, and piecier. In recent years cropped shapes have exhibited a stronger, more boyish tone with barbered edges and stronger outlines; this season’s girlier variations are a refreshing change of pace. These cuts look feminine even without makeup and require little more in the way of styling than a dab of pomade. If your ready to update your crop click the style notes. –– Laura Martin

Step: If your hair is already short, remove weight by adding uniform layers all over the head. If may take a few cuts to establish a soft, rounded shape. If you’re starting with longer hair, get a round layered cut about 3” all over the head.

Step: Layer the shape first, and refine edges after for a diffused, feminine outline. Leaving some length around the ears and at the nape will give hair a pretty, fringy feeling.

Step: At home, apply a nickel of hair creme, tousle through and dry naturally. When moisture is gone, refine shape with a dab of defining cream twisted into ends.
