While both long and short shapes are in fashion this fall, the trendiest length lies in between. Shoulder skimming cuts in a variety of styles, from sleek and smooth to tousled and textured, are striking the perfect balance. Learn more about this season’s hottest length, and the best shapes it comes in, in the style notes. –– Laura Martin
One Length: (pictured top left) A shoulder-dusting one length line is understated and chic. Super smooth or wavy this cut is the prefect expression of a minimalist aesthetic.
Vintage Glam: (pictured bottom right) Old Hollywood starlets usually had shoulder length tresses, and for good reason: the moderate length is super versatile and holds curl better than longer lengths. Rounded layers will increase volume and provide versatile styling.
Blunt With Bangs: (pictured top right) Crisp lines at the shoulder and brow give hair a no-nonsense, high fashion vibe. Ask your stylist to cut the bangs wide of the eyes to keep the look from feeling too girlish.
Choppy Layers: (pictured bottom left) Make mid-length hair look longer by breaking it up with choppy layers. The internal movement makes this shape perfect for the air-dried texture that’s so in right now.
