Low buns are coming back into fashion’s favor, replacing topknots as the season’s simple go-to style. The classic look has a youthful, romantic quality, especially when worn loose with wisps left out around the face. The only problem with low buns is that they can be a bit of a bore, especially for evening. But Olivia Wilde and Jennifer Lawrence have found the perfect solution; braiding the hair loosely with a lace scarf, golden ribbon, or other fabric lends the texture and color that invigorates the style while maintaining the bohemian vibe. Read on for simple steps to creating the look. –– Laura Martin
Step: Work a few pumps of volume foam into roots and finger dry to encourage soft volume and natural texture. Part as desired and pull hair back into a loose ponytail. Secure with a cloth covered hair band.
Step: Wrap your desired material over the top of the head or around the base of the pony. Then braid, incorporating fabric into two strands of a three-pronged braid.
Step: When twine is complete, wrap up and over the ponytail, securing with bobby pins. Pull a few wisps out around the hairline and loosen bun as desired. Mist with holding spray.
