Step: The bob is a classic shape that’s easy to customize. Square bobs feel sleek and structured while a-line versions have a swingy forward momentum. For maximum edginess, keep edges blunt, or go for a softer edge and add a bit of sweetness. Bangs are another great way to make this look your own; try a short, above the brow fringe for maximum impact.

Step: For no-commitment color use hair chalk or a colored conditioner like Water Color Hydrating Hair Mask. The mask comes in six shades and washes out in 1-5 shampoos, and it won’t dry out your hair like chalking can. For a longer lasting shade, try Goldwell’s Elumen line which provides long lasting, damage free crayon box colors.

Step: Style your bob with defrizz serum which will make the color sparkle. Use curl enhancer to bring out waves or set and style to blow-dry straight.

Reese Witherspoon has improved her poor behavior and reformed ––back to blonde. Two weeks ago the Legally Blonde actress and husband Jim Toth were arrested for disorderly conduct and DUI. Since then, Reese apologized for her behavior on Good Morning America and then reappeared as a blonde. The transformation raised the question: does being brunette bring out our darker side? Not really –– there are as many stereotypes about earthy and natural brunettes as there are about wild raven-heads –– although a big change in any direction may hint at a person trying to mask their known self, so a more deviant (or compliant) version of their personality can appear. Such things remind us what a powerful tool of transformation hair can be. And color makeovers are especially dynamic. For decades now, celebrities have used hair color as a  catalyst for new life, new character traits. Cheryl Fazio, master stylist at ARROJO studio, is an expert of occasion hair styling.  Happily, she’s sending us images and notes for some of her latest work, and this messy bun caught our attention for its whimsical point of difference. The tousled tresses feel carefree and casual, and the billowing texture captures the modern fashion for shape and movement. – This style is simple to create. The point is that it is none-too-perfect. All you need to do is create texture and a bun, and then use an interesting, organic tie to add an undone feeling to the style.

– I blow-dried her hair with refinish dry shampoo and my hands. Lifting hair at the root to encourage body, the product and heat did the rest –– dry shampoo is great for making the gritty texture of a modern finish. If hair lacks natural texture, simply use an iron or wand to add tousle.

– Hair was then swept back and gathered above the nape. Use some interesting string or twine to wrap around the bun for beatnik elegance.

– To finish, I used my fingers and primp working spray to separate the texture some more.

Step: Even a simple black bow comes in a variety of styles; from soft ribbons and shiny patten leather to hard plastic clips. If you like classic looks, try a simple satin version, if you have an edgier aesthetic, go for a shiny sculptural form.

Step: Accessories can be a great way to control unruly hair, but they also create a point of emphasis. Place your bow where it has a chance to shine. Transition points like the edge of a ponytail or the base of a braid are good options. If in doubt, an off-center positioning near the hairline is always a good choice.

Step: Give your strands a texture that complements your accessory; pair shine spray with lacquered clips and refinish dry shampoo with low sheen fabrics.

It’s no secret that braids have been all the rage this summer, and with good reason! With a limitless way to interpret this style, the possibilities are inexhaustible. If you can dream up a braid, you can most likely achieve the look. Up above are four inventive braid styles that have caught our attention. With so many braids to try, you can have a different braided look every day of the week! Click through for steps to perfect your plaits.

Step: Start by prepping your hair with detanlging foam so your hair is free knots.

Step: Braid your into the style of your choosing.

Step: Finish with holding spray to keep your hair looking fresh and perfect all day long.

We can’t stress enough the value of brilliant and stylish bangs. Have them cut wrong and the eyes can look closer together, or they can weigh you down into a dated look. Get them cut right and bangs will lift you up, frame the wonderful features of your face, and bring more attention to your eyes. Be brave and try different ways of wearing them.

For inspiration, use these images of edgy film star, Rooney Mara. While keeping the raven color and the pixie look, she has creatively changed up her style by reshaping the front. A comb, a blowdryer and a lightweight styling product is all you need to try a variety of fashionable fringes. Go for it! 

Step: Remember, most good salons give free bang trims. For style similar to Rooney’s, ask your stylist for severe and blunt, baby bangs.

Step: For styling them straight and smooth, mist damp bangs with set & style spray. Use a comb and a blowdryer to blowdry side to side first, then straight down. This is a great way to get polished fringes.

Step: Also use a comb to create interesting, angled bang partings. Use a little shine spray to spotlight them with bedazzle.

Step: Slick bangs back or to the side by combing through with hair gel.

With radiant shine, this soft copper red color is sure to be a trend this summer. The beauty of this braid is that it helps to show off sparkling red and golden highlights, while promoting the texture in these long, soft layers. Swing bangs and braids aggressively to the side, and keep things loose and undone anytime low-slung tousled élan is needed or desired.

Step: Apply Volume Foam to damp hair, roots to ends. Scrunch hair intermittently until almost dry.

Step: Apply Refinish Dry Shampoo all over to increase texture and volume.

Step: Let the braiding begin! Push hair all to one side, the messier the better. Create a loose, two or three strand braid and push behind the ear. Use the image above as inspiration.

Step: The layers may tend to fall out of the shape at the back of the style. To fix, take bobby pins and pin any loose bits back into the shape. Focus styling on making it look perfectly imperfect.

While wearing her trendsetting short crop, Michelle Williams has enjoyed playing with different color tones. She’s already rocked strawberry and sandy blonde at different red carpet events, and here she goes for the archetypal platinum silvery-blonde. The great thing about short hair, is the different stages of the grow out –– as days pass, you can do radically different things. Until recently, her crop was so short that she was mostly wearing it flat, which is a nice way to accent the curvature of the head. But now, with that bit of extra length, she had created an elegant side-swept bang, and a softly tousled shape. She looks youthful, contemporary, and gorgeous.

Step: If you have successfully lightened to blonde, now you can try different tones. From warm to cool, ash to strawberry see what your colorist thinks would make your perfect match.

Step: As a crop grows out, experiment with different styling ideas. Try brushing it forward, brushing it back, creating some texture, or adding a fringe. Short hair is where you can be most creative.

Step: Use hair creme for slept-in looks. Use texture paste to muss it up. Use cream wax for a lived-in,  disheveled feel.

We love these ponytails for their ease and versatility. Neither high or low, the mid-height pony benefits from being chameleon in nature: made polished and sleek, it becomes elegant and sophisticated; with a loose and disheveled texture, it becomes free-spirited, flirty and fun. Step: It’s not necessary to wash hair beforehand. Slighter dirty hair is usually better because the hair is rougher, which in turns aids texture and helps pins and grips hold tight.

Step: So, rather than cleansing and conditioning, we recommend that you dry clean hair with refinish dry shampoo; this adds bulk and texture for you to work with. If you like your hair to be clean, blowdry in hands with set and style spray to create body and hold.

Step: Loosely gather hair from the top and sides and pull into a ponytail that sits on the occipital bone. Take a band or cord and hook and wrap around the base, nice and tight. When cord expires, simply hook into the base of the pony. (To guarantee a tight nape, keep head upright when forming the ponytail.).

Step: Mist holding spray over style, especially the pony.
