It seems all I can write about at the moment is holiday hairstyles, but if your life is anything like mine right now, there can never be enough. My calendar is full of Christmas-y performances, holiday celebrations, and seasonal festivities. This means I’m spending a lot of time buying white elephant gifts, baking cookies and making cocktails, leaving very little time for elaborate hairstyles. Thankfully I discovered the perfect solution: broaches. These sparkly accessories work like oversized barrettes and they come in a much greater variety of shapes and styles. Attach one to any style, up or down, and your party ready. Click the notes for simple steps. –– Laura Martin

Step: Style hair as desired, up or down and finish with holding spray for security and style memory. Allow spray to set for 2 minutes.

Step: Use two bobby pins to make an “x” on the spot you plan to place the broach. If hair is very fine or slippery you may wish to backcomb this section lightly before adding pins for additional hold.

Step: Use the pin on the back of the broach to attach it across the center of the “x”. Add additional pins as needed to secure.
