2015 was dominated by the half-knot, pink hair, and ornate braids. Now that into the new year, it’s time to think about what 2016 will hold for our locks. My follicle forecasting sensors are telling me that this year will be an epoch of individuality, one that calls for nonconformist approaches and free-spirited attitudes. Think strong statements and lots of self-expression. It’s going to be a great year of hair-watching, on and off the street. Single Plaits

Statement single plaits will be the it braid for the year. Céline made it a do on the spring 2016 runway show and then the look appeared all over the street of Paris. Start singular braiding NOW!

Cropped Cuts

After Charlize Theron debuted a dramatic buzz cut in Mad Max, and Ajak Deng and Kris Gottschalk appeared in super short cuts on the Givenchy runway, pixies and close crops appeared everywhere. I’m thinking this look will pop up on the street as women become more confident at wearing cuts above their shoulders.

Natural Texture

Leave the straightening treatments and flat irons behind and stop fighting your natural texture. The new wave of it girls are embracing their curls and letting them kink and wave freely. Case in point: Maria Borge’s amazing afro at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Fringe

Bangs will be the coolest accessory of the year. From the beauty looks at Bottega Veneta to Holly Fulton, it was seen all over the runways. Fringe even kicked off this year’s Vogue January cover, showcasing Alicia Vikander in sleek micro bangs.
