The top knot has had a moment in the spotlight. Making unstyled and second-day hair look like a night at the Emmys. Stars like Emily Ratajkowski, Zendaya, and Aymeline Valade have been seen rocking the top knot with a new twist— a center part & loose bangs, a more lax version of the knot.

This new development in top knots is taking lazy girl chic to a whole new level— it’s classy & showy yet can be done in less than 10 minutes.

Here’s how to get the top knot with a twist:

This look is key for second or third-day hair, instead of washing your hair opt for a co-wash or a dry shampoo to give your hair some texture & grit.

If you haven’t already sprayed dry shampoo into your hair, begin there for optimal texture & hold.

Next, part your hair in the middle about 2 inches onto your crown and comb the rest back, tease the top section that is going into your knot.

Then wrap your hair around itself to create a fluffy loose top bun or a tighter knot—depending on the look you’re going for.

Now it’s time to style the front 2 inches of hair left out of your updo. Grab your curling wand and wrap your hair for a loose wave.

Spritz with hairspray and/or shine oil & you’re ready to take down the town like Emily Ratajkowski.
