The original images of Alice in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland show her with slicked back wavy hair tied with a wide ribbon. As the narrative progresses her bow is lost, but when Disney made the story into an animated film the bow returned, and the thick black band added a somber hint to Alice’s blonde hair, powered blue frock and crisp white pinafore. The wide lines of the ribbon tied neatly at the top of her head reveal carefulness and practicality, and although Alice exhibits many childish traits throughout the story, she handles each bizarre encounter with impressive composure. Although a bow may seem an immature accessory, Alice proved it can also be serious and sophisticated if worn the right way; read on to find out how.–– Laura Martin
Step: Style hair as desired using shine luxe oil to achieve a glossy, flawless finish.
Step: Select a strip of fabric or pre-made headband in a rich, saturated hue and thick, high-gloss fabric.
Step: Place fabric or headband a few inches back from the hairline, allowing hair in front to fall naturally. Secure around the top of the head, placing bow near the apex and off-center.
