While some people fall to the extreme ends of the introvert/extrovert spectrum, most of us want attention in moderation. Sure some days we want to strut down the street turning heads, but other times we’d like to blend in with the crowd. If you’re anything like me, your hairstyle fantasy is something that accommodates both of these extremes, something both bold and understated, capable of showing off and laying low. Charcoal brown with deep blue underneath can look like a simple cool brown or a deep navy depending on how much the lower sections are revealed. It’s a look that easily transitions from understated to attention-grabbing. Get the formulas and application tips in the style notes. –– Laura Martin

Application: Divide the hair using deep zigzags, into two block sections. The outer circle can be 2-4” wide depending on desired intensity and should include the entire hairline. Apply formula 1 to this entire circle, roots to ends and isolate with foil. Apply formula 2 to all remaining hair. Process for 30 minutes. Rinse each section separately before shampooing and conditioning.

Formulas: (on natural level 6)

1: Goldwell Topchic 10 parts 10P + 1 part A-Mix with 40 Volume

2: Goldwell Topchic 3 parts 3VV + 2 parts 5BP + 1 part 4G with 10 Volume
