headband

I love headbands. They’re easily the most functional hair accessory. They’re ideal for when your fringe is in that annoying transitional stage, when you’re applying your makeup, working out, or simply adding a decorative piece to your outfit. However, sometimes even our trusty favorites don’t always want to stay in place and end up sliding down towards our ponytails or over our eyes. But no need to stop wearing them, I have a few tips and tricks on keeping your headband where it belongs. Click through to style notes to get the details. –– Michelle Rotbart

Add Texture

For grip, add in texture to your hair with a texturizing product like wave mist, refinish or even a bit of pomade where the headband is meant to sit. Any of these stylers will help give hair a bit of movement and help your headband stay in place. This works well with stretchy and thicker fabric styles that sometimes slip off the crown.

Use Bobby Pins

When in doubt, use a bobby pin. Use a pin that’s a similar color to our hair, then pin your headband in place right below your ear. Your headband is now physically attached to your hair, so it wont slide about or slip off.

Tie It Up Top

Even if you’re not into hair scarves, I recommend trying this trick out. First off, hair scarves always have a classic Hollywood glamor about them and second, it’s better to tie it up top than at the nape of your neck where it will likely loosen. Try pairing your scarf with a messy bun or loose waves for a look that’s not too sweet.

Keep It Close To Your Hair Line

You don’t have to wear your headband on your forehead, but keep it close to your hairline so it has more of an obstacle to move through to come off.
