Lived-in texture, waves, and bends continue to trend and I couldn’t be happier. Partly because it means smooth, over primped blowouts are out and wash-and-go, air-dried texture is in. And while this style is perfect for easy Sundays, sometimes even we lazy gals want a look that is just a tad more polished. Enter the new look of modern waves, they involve a little heat styling, but mostly just your fingers and some great product. They’re perfect for an evening out and you can even wear them the next few days! Click through to the notes, to learn how to get started. –– Michelle Rotbart

Step One: Start with second day hair and spray in protective thickening lotion from roots to ends.

Step Two: Grab your smoothing iron and use it to create bends and curls on two-inch sections of hair.

Step Three: Use this technique to curl and wave your whole head in small sections and be sure to leave the ends out.

Step Four: Once hair is waved, break your bends and curls up with your fingers by raking them through. Then flip your hair over and tousle and mussy it up by placing your hands underneath your crown and shaking. This gives you some movement without frizzing up your top layers of hair. Spray in refinish all over.
