flyaways

Nothing ruins your look or dampens your confidence faster than flyaways. These pesky runaway hairs seem to spring out of nowhere, turing your perfectly polished style and colossal effort into a complete mess. Flyaways are annoying, and we all get them, so we’re excited to share some solutions that will keep them under control. Click through to style notes to get the details. –– Michelle Rotbart

Start with a great conditioner

Moisturized hair is the happiest and most cooperative. A leave-in conditioner is a great way to maintain your hair’s hydration through the day. Deep-conditioning masques, like hair repair masque can be worked into your weekly routine for more intense moisturizing.

Don’t Brush

Don’t ever use a regular brush on soaking wet hair, especially if your hair is prone to flyways. Opt for a detangling brush with balled tipped nylon bristles or a wide-tooth comb to detangle. You’ll prevent hair breakage and future flyaways.

Forget Your Towel

Skip wrapping your hair with a towel. Towels can rough the cuticle, causing breakage and more flyways. Use a soft t-shirt or paper towels instead. They’re more absorbing and less damaging.

Use the Right Styling Products

Styling products really help combat frizz and flyways but make sure not to use too much or you’ll wind up with greasy-looking tresses. Opt for lightweight formulas like frizz control or shine luxe oil for optimum results.

Avoid Excessive Heat

Too much heat styling and primping dries hair out, which brings out the flyways, so put down the hot tools. If you’re going to heat style, always use a thermal protectant spray and finish with a lightweight hair spray like primp for hold.
