I’m going to level with you. I love wet look hair on other people, but it makes me look like a convict or a lost orphan. This may be the fault of my resting-bitch-face, my fine but insanely dense hair, or my strong jaw line. Whatever the reason, I’ve never been able to pull off this texture until, inspired by the editorial pictured above (see the full spread, here). I combined wet look with volume. The result makes me feel like an eighties pop star. It’s tough, glamorous, and retro. Learn how to rock it in the notes. –– Laura Martin
Step: Apply a handful of volume foam to roots of clean damp hair and comb through. Mist ends with protective thickening lotion. Dry with a large boar bristle round brush, using firm tension and high elevation. Work in sections parallel to the hairline to prevent splits.
Step: Beginning at the front hairline, backbrush roots to add volume, working back to the crown. Flip all hair away from face.
Step: Mist front hairline lightly with water. Massage a pea of hair gel gently into roots and across the top surface, allowing hair to split and separate. Mist with holding spray to lock in place.
