When many of us think of a redhead, someone with fair skin and a freckled-face may come to mind––think Isla Fisher or Nicole Kidman. And while that’s a common thread, it’s not a totally accurate one. Photographer Michelle Marshall recently launched her photography project MC1R, a collective of images documenting the beautifully diverse manifestations of the recessive MC1R gene, particularly in Afro-Caribbean redheads. There’s certainly a lot of interesting science to learn behind the gene mutation but for now, I love simply admiring these striking portraits that capture every freckle and fly-away hair. Click through to style notes to see more inspiring images; they’ll change your perception on redheads. –– Michelle Rotbart
