2014 will be the year when celebrities, IT girls, models, and women about town will celebrate and elevate the iconic bob cut. It is a trend predicted by ARROJO NYC Creative Director, Lina Arrojo. Last fall, she shaped the styles posted in the image above; and with celebrities lining up to get chin-lengths we are sure this year the trend will take off. “These styles are inspired by French New Wave,” says Lina. “I wanted to break free from the bob’s conservative paradigm. Using freeform razor-cutting, my idea was to create quirky yet moody, young and sophisticated shapes –– Bob Nouvelle.” To learn more about vanguard bobs, click style notes.
Step 1: Using the razor to create soft diffusions in the line, Lina’s bobs employ technical front to back graduations to take the elevation of the cuts from low to high. This inspired technique creates a streamlined, flirty and modern feel.
Step 2: For styling similar shapes, blowdry with set and style spray to encourage shine, volume and a polished finish.
Step 3: On the ends, use defining cream to put visible sharpness into the outline.
Step 4: For more of a gritty, lived-in, perfectly imperfect feel, pulse layers of refinish dry shampoo into hair and shake and tousle with hands.
