Crimps expand hair, creating fluffy, grip-able texture that’s easy to pin or flounce. You can crimp just the roots to create a mane of wild hair, add texture throughout for a soft, wooly shape, or introduce the texture on random sections to spice up your everyday look. The woolly texture feels cozy and soft, like wearing a big, luxurious scarf. Learn more about using crimps in the style notes. –– Laura Martin

Step: Mist hair, roots to ends, with protective thickening lotion before drying. Tousle to remove moisture and smooth with a paddle brush.

Step: Working in small sections, mist with holding spray and apply a crimper to hair. Work roots to ends, lifting hair up and clamping iron as close to roots as possible to maximize volume. Repeat through the head, or as desired.

Step: When set is complete, allow hair to cool. Brush out crimps to enhance volume and soften texture.
