Wind-blown, disheveled, wild, tangled, whatever you like to call it, unkempt hair is in. Rumpled texture looks low-maintenance, but it can be tricky to achieve, especially if your hair is fine and silky. The trick is to expand the hair without adding weight. It’s a delicate balance, but easy to achieve with the right products and methods. Read on for fool-proof professional tips. –– Laura Martin

Step: Cleanse and moisturize hair with gentle shampoo and conditioner for weightless nourishment. Towel dry.

Step: Work a handful of volume foam into roots, for a bit of grip, and mist mid-lengths and ends with protective thickening lotion, which will pump up strands for added fullness.

Step: Rough dry hair, blasting roots with a warm dryer to add volume. Twist hair into thick coils and continue to dry until all moisture is gone. The coils will enhance texture and expand your shape.

Step: Spray roots with refinish, lifting sections up to enhance volume. With a round paddle brush, backcomb the underside of hair lightly.

Step: If more volume is needed use a crimper or styling wand to texturize random sections.

Step: Refine with fingers and round paddle brush, blending and smoothing until desired look is achieved. Spritz finished result with primp.
