Sports Illustrated covergirl Kate Upton always looks stunning, but we were really blown away by her recent look at the Cannes Film Festival. The model jazzed up her classic black dress with curly, disheveled waves. Her asymmetric curls were both glamorous and trendy. And we adore the loose, pulled-back strands on the side. Keep reading to learn how to replicate this sultry look.

Step: Towel dry hair to damp. Apply styling whip from roots to ends.

Step: Use a comb to create a deep side part. The part doesn’t have to be perfect — the messier, the better!

Step: Blowdry hair with a large round brush. Focus on a bouncy shape.

Step: Curl a medium-sized section of hair around a large barrel curling iron. Repeat wherever you want curls. Pull fingers through the curls so they turn into loose waves.

Step: On the side of the part that has less hair, grab a large section of hair and pull it back to the nape of the neck. Pull under the rest of the hair and pin in place.
