You heard it here first. In hairstyling, 2012 will be remembered as the year of the paradigm shift. Ever since Jennifer Anniston’s round brush blowdry made her “Friends” ‘do the most popular style of the time, hair has been getting straighter. The apotheosis was reached with keratin treatments but, after nearly twenty years of unbending hair, the pendulum has swung. Look at the runways, look at the celebrities, look at the streets. Beach waves, texture, tousle, flow, loose and cascading looks: this is the new vanguard.
Right on cue, Khloe K sports this luscious, drop down glamor wave. The trend takes inspiration from the seventies, and so can you. Think center-part, think straight drop at the crown, think transition into tousled texture, think big and bouncy and beautiful.
Psssst! Rather than creating texture daily with curling irons, rollers, and blow-dries, there is a new salon service for the permanent creation of texture. American Wave creates permanent beach waves, permanent volume, and permanent curls. It is available at salons nationwide. To find out more, click here.
Step: Apply roots to ends. Hand dry hair to about 80% dry. Using high heat of the dryer, lift hair off the root and toss from side to side to encourage body and texture.
Step: Center-part hair with comb.
Step: Mist side sections –– and any section you plan to curl –– with thermal protector.
Step: Use a large barrel curling iron to create soft, cascading ‘C’ shapes. Wind sections onto iron, hold for fifteen seconds, unwind and release. Repeat where curls are desired.
Step: Alternatively, get this on-trend texture permanently for summer with an American Wave service. You can see the full list of North American salons that carry American Wave via this link.
