It’s easy to forget the beauty of simplicity. I love wild layers and edgy textures, but there are few things I find more elegant than the clean, classic blunt cut. It’s just so effortless. The precision edge looks gorgeous smooth or tousled, flowing loose or tucked behind the ears. No other cut will make your hair look as thick or as healthy. Try it below the shoulder or above the chin, the cut works great on a variety of lengths. Click the notes to learn more about this understated classic. –– Laura Martin

Step: When selecting the length for this cut, place the bottom edge at a point you’d like to emphasize: shoulder dusting length will highlight a long neck, chin length will emphasize the jawline, Below the shoulder will draw attention to the clavicle and shoulders.

Step: Customize the shape with small details around the face. A few wisp strands will add softness without taking away from the clean edge. A straight across bang is another beautiful option that works well with the cut.

Step: If you like the shape but have thick hair as your stylist to undercut the lower layers or remove bulk from the interior with thinning techniques. Dry with shine luxe oil for a smooth, low-volume, finish.
