Nobody does girly, flirty and fashionable better than an Olson and Mary-Kate keeps the twins at the top of the style pack with this effortlessly cool, casually unkempt headband braid. A bit like a halo, like other braids it is on the vanguard of beachy summer trends. A different –– and organic –– way to create a headband, it is elegant and chic and great for when you don’t have time or energy for blow-drying.
Step: Prep hair with Refinish dry shampoo. Focus at the roots to add gritty, tacky texture. (The braid won’t hold if hair is too clean.)
Step: Using a fine-tooth comb, create a deep side part in your hair, starting at the outside arch of the eyebrow.
Step: Lift two-to-three inches of hair beginning at the hairline. This hair is the beginning of the braid, so ensure you’re satisfied with the width and the location.
Step: Begin a two-strand braid at the part, making it loose or tight depending on your preference.
Step: Braid your hair across the head. If you have short hair, stop the braid at the top of the ear, tie with a rubber band, and tuck the end behind the ear. If you have longer hair, continue braiding and secure the ends with a bobby pin on the other side of the part.
Step: Pull out a few strands to frame the face and to maintain a tousled, beatnik look.
