Ornamental clips were one of the few consistent hair trends of New York’s SS2016 Fashion Week. Their most surprising use was in the Marc Jacobs show where they adorned messy, tumbled hair tresses designed to mimic the aftereffects of a night on the town. It’s a surprisingly appealing look, one that feels more authentic than many of the “natural” styles popularized in the last few years. I immediately wanted to steal it. (Though the clumpy eyelashes and intentional dark circles aren’t very enticing.) Which begs the question, if you go out looking like this what happens by the end of the night? Step: Begin with clean, damp hair. Add a handful each of cream whip and hair creme. Comb through. Mist mid-lengths and ends with healing oil and massage a quarter of gel into roots.

Step: Part deeply on one side and scrunch gently to activate texture. Allow to air dry, then set with holding spray.

Step: Use fingers to fold and pin hair into a loose up or half-up shape, being careful not to break up texture and allowing splits and bumps. Add decorative clips as desired.
