Spring brings warm weather, beautiful blossoms, and brides. Wedding season is here, and a slew of brides to be –– not to mention bridesmaids and wedding guests –– are stepping out in this season’s nuptial ensembles. Mermaid dresses, tulle, and rouching are big bridal trends this season, especially when paired with oversized gilded and jeweled hair pieces. These accessories offer the glamour of a tiara but have a more sophisticated vibe. Read the style notes for tips on wearing these stunning embellishments. –– Laura Martin
Step: Pick your hairstyle first. You want your accessory to enhance, not compete with, the overall look. Select a piece that complements the shape and texture of the style. A sleek, metal piece works well with a polished twist where a rich, jeweled ornament looks great amid tousled curls.
Step: Secure it. Many hair ornaments attach to the hair with a comb or small clip. Bring your hair piece with you to your trial and ask your stylist about adding additional pins or clips for security. The last thing you want to be worrying about on your special day is your hair.
Step: Minimize on other accessories. If you choose a statement hair piece keep other jewelry to a minimum. If you want a veil, pick a small one that can attach at the base of the ornament.
