Friend of style noted and all-star photographer, Parker Young drew our attention to this fun music video by Luca Vasta. Capturing the feelings surrounding the desperate need to get a hair cut, what could be more perfect for a hair blog on a sunday…! To watch and listen, click play.
Earlier this week we featured Nicole Richie’s new bangs. Inspired by her new foxy fringe, we’re paying tribute to her evolving look. The Fashion Star judge has donned everything from gaudy-colored extensions on The Simple Life –– we’re glad that look died –– to marcel waves, fishtail braids, and ballerina buns. She’s also a chameleon of length; her look is cosmopolitan in a razored bob, and free-spirited in long layers. As she’s emerged as a style icon, Nicole has also founded two boho-chic brands: the House of Harlow 1960 shoe line and the Winter Kate clothing collection. To see our favorite images of Nicole’s development from provocative hemlines to flowing maxi dresses and all of the hairstyles in-between, click through to style notes. –– Michelle Rotbart
This summer two famous babies will make their appearance, one a product of hip-hop and reality T.V. royalty, the other born of the British kind of royalty. While we wait to meet both, hot mamas Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton continue to impregnate our consciousness with their illustrious hairstyles –– donning signature blow-dries, they have not let gestation cramp their style. Despite celebrity inspiration, the affects of pregnancy on hair remains a topic of concern for expectant mothers. Due to hormonal changes, there are often differences in the amount of sebum produced by the glands, which impacts the appearance and texture of hair. Every body is different, so it’s difficult to gauge the exact changes pregnancy will cause for each mother, but there are some golden guidelines that all women can use to help maintain healthy strands while pregnant. So if you’re on the way to giving birth, and want to look as radiant as Kate and Kim, click style notes for tips. –– Michelle Rotbart
No doubt aware of the visual feast that Baz Luhman’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby surely must be, Carey Mulligan cleverly chose a flawlessly minimal look for the New York premiere. A strapless dress, barely there makeup, one (scintillating earrings) accessory, and off-the-face hair –– it is a wonderful way for us to see the naked beauty of an English rose. Swept into the simplest chignon bun at the nape, her hair is all pushed back, yet the texture is kept fuzzy and disheveled rather than slick. It’s another smart choice. With such a stripped down aesthetic, too much sleekness would be severe; this way, Carey is chic yet playful. Want to steal the artful hairstyle? Get our tips to fuzzy texture and chignon buns in the style notes.
