Graduate school has landed me in the small town of Milledgeville, GA, home of the famous southern writer, Flannery O’Connor. O’Connor loved birds, and peacocks in particular. She kept dozens of peafowl on her farm, Andalusia, and often wrote about them. Three of them live there today, and on a recent visit, as I admired their luminous feathers, a combination of rich brown, blue and green, I thought about translating the shades from feathers to hair filaments. Blue and green are lovely choices for accents if you have a dark brown base, and with the right application, they can look as brilliant as peacock feathers. Colored by Tabitha at ARROJO NYC, this delicately hand-painted hairstyle is the perfect way to lighten up for summer. Hand-painting or balayage is the process of free-hand painting color onto the hair without using foils. This gives a natural lived-in feel to the color. Since the colorist has full control over where on the hair the color will lay, each client is left with a fresh and customized look. Whether you see an original recording artist and a fearless fashion pioneer or someone that’s rather clever at flashing her knickers and jumping on the latest musical fads, Rihanna’s chameleonic charms mean that an interesting new hairstyle is never too far away. This bushy and bouncy ponytail is viciously flirty, dirtily dramatic, and screams, look at me. High ponytails are also great for giving an illusion of lift for cheekbones and temples, as the eye is naturally drawn upwards when observing such a high-flying ‘do.
