When you are at your next hair appointment you need to ask key questions to make sure you get the exact results you want. Sometimes being vague or putting your trust in thinking your stylist knows what you want, can leave you in tears by the end of the appointment. Click the notes for more. –– Kelly Rowe

What does an inch look like to you?

An inch to you may be closer to a half an inch while an inch to your stylist may be closer to two inches. Show your stylist exactly what you want. After, have them brush your hair straight down your back and show you in the mirror where they are going to cut and where the new length is going to be.

Is this haircut for air-drying? Is this haircut for blow-drying?

This is quite possibly one of the most important questions to ask. During your consultation make sure the suggestions the stylist gives you for your new look will suit your lifestyle. If you are a wash and wear girl, having a look that needs to be blown out every time is not a smart option for you.

What is the maintenance on this cut?

If you find yourself hardly making it to your hairdressers chair don’t opt for a cut that needs to be refreshed every 4-6 weeks. Make sure you ask you stylist how often you will need to be in to keep it looking the way it does when you walk out of the salon door.

Do you have photos of your work I could see?

Any great hairdresser will always have pictures on their phone, iPad, or somewhere in the salon of previous work they have done. This can put you at ease, make you feel that their aesthetic matches yours, and give you confidence in their skill level. If they don’t any be cautious and make sure to be explicitly clear with what you want.
