Nicole Rodriguez came from Miami to ARROJO NYC to put changing her look into the hands of two world-class hairstylists, Lina Arrojo and Amy Akiva. Nicole was tired of wearing long hair; she was open and ready for change. She wanted something short, feminine and fun. Read on for professional insight into what happened next…

Lina gave Nicole a razor-cut bob. She undercut the back and sides to flatten the shape, and give hair more freedom to swing and move. Loose and choppy layers create the undone, modern jagged line. Finally for the cut, Lina added interest around the eye line by giving her short side bangs, which can be worn straight down for a sultry eye-grazing look, or swept to the side for different styling option.

It’s a great cut and I was excited to add color to it. I hand-painted on highlights to show off the texture of the bob. Painting is an exciting modern technique that allows you to tailor color to the cut. In this example, I was able to accentuate the drama of the longer pieces of hair by using a lightener and simply painting on the highlight in the places I found most appropriate. Then we toned to rich and sultry chocolate brown, which is a great hue for fall.

To blowdry, we applied set and style spray and defrizz serum and used a flat brush to make it silky and shiny.
